The Friendly Ghosts
There was a smell of burnt toast wafting across the stairs leading to the attic. Michael and Anthony, two newly minted ghosts, were planning some hidings for the guests at the Bellvedere Inn. A newly married couple, Sam and Louise were staying on the third floor. They had complained about the heater’s malfunction last night. They requested extra blankets.
Michael said he preferred making sounds of chains moving across the floor.. Anthony liked the sound of soft unidentifiable whisperings. Both liked the smell of rotting meat.
Sam and Louise weren’t afraid of the odd noises wakening them in the middle of the night. They were mostly confused at the source of the odd ramblings. They vowed to stay awake to determine the genesis of the ruckus. Sam claimed the first watch leaving Louise the morning. At 3 a.m. they heard the first sluggish groans, trying unsuccessfully to ignore them. Sam slung his arm around his wife’s shoulders advising her to go back to sleep. Louise complained she was a light sleeper and needed her beauty rest. “In the morning, let’s find another hotel.” Louise intoned.
The ghosts were surprised. They had done their best to be friendly. They vowed to try harder the next night.
